Custom blackwork & flash
My name is Jake Llewellyn, and I am a solo tattoo artist dedicated to the preservation and progression of illustrative blackwork. I began my journey in the visual arts as an illustrator, working with ink, charcoal, and paper. The transition to skin was a natural but profound shift—I realized that the ultimate canvas is one that breathes, moves, and ages.
My approach to tattooing is deeply intentional. I don’t believe in rushing the process or churning out cookie-cutter designs. I take the time to study your body’s natural lines, ensuring that every curve of the tattoo complements your anatomy.
I draw inspiration from classical engraving, botanical illustrations, scientific diagrams, and ancient mythology, translating these complex themes into clean, readable tattoos that stand the test of time. When you sit in my chair, you are getting a collaborative, professional, and respectful experience from start to finish.
Every tattoo shown below is a custom piece designed specifically for the client's unique anatomy. This gallery showcases the aging quality, line weight consistency, and anatomical flow of my illustrative blackwork. Use the filters to explore themes and placements.

Flash designs are pre-drawn, original pieces of art that I am excited to tattoo. Unless specified otherwise, each design is tattooed only once. Once a design is claimed, it is retired forever.
Browsing flash is the fastest way to get in my chair—these requests bypass the longer custom design phase and are scheduled with priority.
Designs marked as Available can be reserved immediately with a deposit. Those marked as Claimed are permanently retired out of respect for the collector.
"A stylized raven perched on a crescent moon with hanging geometric charms."
"A bold illustrative dagger piercing through a heavy-petaled rose with delicate line shading."
"A realistic anatomical heart with blooming wildflowers growing out of the aorta."
"A detailed death's head hawkmoth centered inside clean geometric concentric circles."
"A fine-line cicada with spread wings, featuring moon phase details along the spine."
"A slender snake winding through falling ginkgo biloba leaves."
If none of the available flash designs match your vision, I would love to collaborate on a custom illustrative concept. Let's build a design tailored precisely to your ideas and body placement.

The session is over, but our work isn't done. 50% of the final quality of your tattoo depends on how you care for it during the next two to three weeks. Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure clean healing, sharp lines, and deep black saturation.
Stage 01
A medical-grade, breathable adhesive barrier that locks in the body's natural healing fluids, allowing for an incredibly clean, scab-free healing process.
Fluid collection under the film is normal. It will look dark, blurry, and ink-filled. Do not panic.
Keep the bandage on as directed. It is normal for fluid (ink, plasma, blood) to collect under the film. It may look dark and blurry—this is completely normal.
To remove, find an edge and gently peel the bandage downwards in the shower under warm running water. Do not pull it straight up.
Gently wash the area with your clean hands using lukewarm water and a mild, unscented liquid soap (like Dr. Bronner's Baby Mild or Dial). Do not use a washcloth or sponge.
Pat the area dry with a clean paper towel. Let it air dry for 10 minutes before applying moisturizer.
Stage 02
Wash your tattoo once in the morning and once at night with unscented liquid soap.
Apply a thin layer of unscented, alcohol-free lotion (like Lubriderm or Aveeno) 2-3 times a day. Your skin should look hydrated, not greasy or wet. If the lotion is pooling on the skin, you've applied too much.
Your tattoo will peel and flake like a sunburn, and it will itch. Do not scratch, pick, or peel the flaking skin. Doing so can pull the ink out of the skin, leaving blank spots.
Avoid baths, hot tubs, swimming pools, lakes, and oceans for at least 2 weeks. Showers are fine, but do not let the water spray directly onto the new tattoo.
Keep your healing tattoo out of direct sunlight. Sunburn will ruin a healing tattoo.
Avoid tight clothing that rubs against the healing area, which can cause irritation and scabbing.
Illustrative blackwork is built to last, but UV radiation is the number one enemy of tattoo longevity. Sun exposure breaks down the pigment particles in your skin over time, causing lines to blur and black ink to fade into a dull gray.
Once your tattoo is completely healed (usually after 3 weeks), apply a high-quality SPF 30 or higher sunscreen whenever you are exposed to the sun.
Keeping your skin hydrated keeps the layers of skin above the ink clear and healthy, making your tattoo look crisper and darker.
If you notice any lines that settled lighter than expected during the healing process, reach out within 6 months for your free touch-up session.
